Montreal
Set on an
island in the St. Lawrence River, Montreal is a city where the
French and English cultures meet. It has an extremely attractive
city centre, ideal for walking. Old Montreal has the largest number
of 17-19th century buildings in North America.
Montreal is famous for its dual culture, with live theatre and
concerts in both languages. It is also a highly diverse,
multi-cultural city. You will find a wide range of excellent
restaurants, with cuisine from all parts of the world.
Montreal has four quite distinct seasons.
Each season provides a wealth of outdoor activities. The countryside
around Montreal is well-known for the changing of leaves in the
fall. In the winter, you can go skiing and skating. In the warmer
months, you can walk, hike, cycle, swim, sail, golf, and play tennis.
Montreal's underground city, which was started in the 1960s, provides
access to 11,700 boutiques, major department stores, restaurants,
theatres, and cinemas - all without ever stepping outdoors! Metro
stops are located throughout the underground city.
